Facial FAQs

Answers to the questions clients ask most often before their first visit.

RRYL Skin Spa is a private, one-on-one skincare studio on Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.

Choosing a treatment

What should I expect during my first appointment?

Your first visit starts with a conversation. Bouchra will ask about your skin history, your current products, any sensitivities or medications, and what you’d like to see change. That’s followed by a close look at your skin before any treatment is chosen.

From there the treatment is tailored to what your skin can comfortably handle that day. You’re welcome to ask questions throughout, and you’ll leave with aftercare guidance.

Which facial should I book if I’m not sure what my skin needs?

You don’t need to diagnose your own skin. Book whichever treatment appeals to you, or reach out beforehand, and the plan is adjusted once Bouchra sees your skin in person.

What helps most is knowing your goal rather than your treatment: dryness, congestion or uneven texture, sensitivity, facial massage and sculpting work, an upcoming event, or simply an hour of rest.

Tell us the goal and the treatment follows. You can also browse the full treatment menu first.

Gua Sha or buccal: what is the difference?

Where the work happens. The Gua Sha Facial is entirely on the outside of the face. The Signature Buccal Lift includes massage inside the mouth, with gloved hands. The 90-minute Gua Sha Buccal Facial brings the two together.

What products and ingredients do you use during facials?

Products are chosen per treatment and per client rather than applied from a single fixed lineup. What’s used depends on your skin type, your sensitivity level, the concerns you’ve raised, any actives you’re already using at home, and the goal of that particular session.

Skin that’s reactive or barrier-compromised is treated with gentler formulations. Some treatments, such as the RRYL Moroccan Atlas Facial, draw on Moroccan-inspired skincare traditions alongside modern professional products.

If you have a known allergy or ingredient sensitivity, tell us when you book.

Can I get a facial if I have sensitive or acne-prone skin?

Yes. Both are common, and both are reasons to be treated by someone who adjusts as they go rather than following a set routine.

For sensitive or reactive skin, the approach is deliberately conservative. For congestion and breakouts, ask Bouchra which facial suits your skin; the treatment menu lists the options.

A facial isn’t a treatment for medical acne and results vary by individual. Persistent or severe breakouts are best managed alongside a dermatologist. Please disclose any medications, prescription actives and past reactions before your appointment.

What makes RRYL different from other facial spas in NYC?

RRYL is a private skincare studio designed around one-on-one care. Each client works directly with one esthetician rather than rotating between providers.

Bouchra Sfakes founded RRYL and performs every treatment herself. Her work centres on Gua Sha and buccal facial massage, alongside a full facial menu, and each appointment is adapted to your skin, concerns and goals. About Bouchra and the studio.

Booking, prices and policies

How much do facials at RRYL Skin Spa cost?

Pricing varies by treatment. Listed prices for every service are on the treatment menu, and the booking calendar shows the price for each option as you select it.

Treatments and prices

How long are RRYL facial treatments?

Most facials are 60-minute appointments. The Express Glow Facial and the Benefit Peel are 30 minutes, and the Gua Sha Buccal Facial is 90 minutes. Lengths are listed on the treatment menu and in the calendar.

Enhancements such as extractions, oxygen or LED can be added to a facial.

How do I book an appointment?

Appointments are booked online. Choose your treatment by name in the calendar, pick a time, and confirm.

Because the studio is private and one-on-one, only one client is seen at a time, so popular times fill in advance. If you don’t see a time that works, or you’d like help choosing a treatment first, get in touch.

If you’re running late, please call the studio as soon as you can. Payment, late arrivals and the full terms are set out in our policies and terms.

How should I prepare for my facial appointment?

Very little preparation is needed, but a few things change what can be done safely:

  • Tell us about allergies, sensitivities and any medications, including prescription skincare
  • Mention retinoids, prescription actives or strong exfoliating acids — a short pause before treatment is often advised, so ask when you book
  • Let us know about any recent peel, laser, injectable or cosmetic procedure, and when it was
  • Avoid treating freshly sunburned or sun-exposed skin
  • Waxing, threading or dermaplaning is best scheduled with a gap before a facial

Makeup isn’t a problem — skin is cleansed on arrival. Share anything relevant before we begin rather than during.

Can I get a facial before a wedding, photoshoot or special event?

Yes. Mention the event when you book so the timing can be planned with Bouchra, and avoid trying a strong or unfamiliar treatment for the first time close to the date.

Afterwards

What should I do after my facial?

You’ll receive aftercare specific to the treatment you had, and that guidance takes priority over anything general.

As a rule: keep the routine simple for a day or two, use gentle cleansing and plenty of moisture, drink water, and apply sunscreen daily. Hold off on strong actives — retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs — until advised.

Peels come with specific instructions on sun exposure, product use and timing.

How soon will I see results, and how long will they last?

How skin looks after a facial, and for how long, varies from person to person. Longer-term goals are best discussed with Bouchra. No facial produces permanent change.

How often should I get a professional facial?

It depends on your skin, your goals and the treatment you choose. Bouchra will suggest a realistic interval after seeing your skin.

Not sure which facial is right for you?

You don’t need to arrive with a treatment already chosen. Tell Bouchra about your skin, any sensitivities or products you use, and anything you are preparing for.
