Gua Sha facial massage
Gua Sha facial or Gua Sha facial massage: the same appointment
Some people search for a Gua Sha facial massage, others for a Gua Sha facial. At RRYL they are the same treatment: a sixty-minute appointment in which Bouchra works over your face and neck with a smooth-edged Gua Sha tool and a facial oil, in slow, repeated strokes. You lie still; she does the work.
Gua Sha has roots in traditional Chinese practice. On the face it is done with a much lighter hand than on the body, and Bouchra adapts pressure and pace to your skin. Nothing is done inside the mouth.
You may also see this kind of facial called “face sculpting”. At RRYL, the hands-on version is this Gua Sha Facial. It is a facial, not a procedure, and RRYL does not promise a change in face shape or any lasting result.

RRYL is a private studio in Suite 707 at 501 Fifth Avenue, at the corner of 42nd Street in Midtown Manhattan. The studio is opposite the New York Public Library and Bryant Park, near Grand Central Terminal.
Subway: 5 Av (7). 42 St–Bryant Park (B, D, F, M) and Grand Central–42 St (4, 5, 6, 7, S) are a short walk away.
Please plan to arrive 15 minutes before your appointment and come to Suite 707. If you are running late, call the studio at (929) 293-5538 as soon as you can.

Before your first Gua Sha facial
Is anything done inside the mouth?
No. The Gua Sha Facial is entirely on the outside of the face. If you would also like buccal work, the Gua Sha Buccal Facial brings the two together in 90 minutes ($450).
Will Gua Sha leave marks?
No. Facial Gua Sha at RRYL does not leave marks: it is done with a light hand, and Bouchra adapts the pressure to your skin as she works. Tell her at any point if it feels too firm. If your skin marks easily, or you have a skin condition or take any medication, mention it when you book so she can advise whether this facial suits you.
Is it the same as using a Gua Sha stone at home?
Not quite. A stone at home gives you a few minutes of your own strokes. In the studio, the appointment is done for you, over the whole face and neck. Gua Sha at home or in the studio: what each one offers →
Can I book it before an event?
Yes. Mention the event when you book so the timing can be planned with Bouchra, and avoid trying a strong or unfamiliar treatment for the first time close to the date.
What should I tell Bouchra beforehand?
Allergies, sensitivities and any medications, including prescription skincare, and any recent Botox, filler, peel or other cosmetic procedure. Makeup is fine; your skin is cleansed at the start.
