Facial FAQs — RRYL Skin Spa, Midtown Manhattan

Answers to the questions clients ask most often before their first visit — how treatments are chosen, how long they take, how to book, and what happens afterward.

RRYL Skin Spa is a private, one-on-one skincare studio on Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, where every treatment is selected for the skin in front of us rather than from a fixed script.

What should I expect during my first appointment?

Your first visit starts with a conversation. Bouchra will ask about your skin history, your current products, any sensitivities or medications, and what you'd like to see change. That's followed by a close look at your skin — texture, hydration, congestion, sensitivity — before any treatment is chosen.

From there the treatment is tailored to what your skin can comfortably handle that day. You're welcome to ask questions throughout; most clients find the explanation as useful as the facial itself. You'll leave with aftercare guidance and, if you want it, an honest view of what a longer-term routine might look like.

Which facial should I book if I'm not sure what my skin needs?

You don't need to diagnose your own skin. Book whichever treatment appeals to you, or reach out beforehand, and the plan is adjusted once Bouchra sees your skin in person.

What helps most is knowing your goal rather than your treatment. Clients usually arrive with one of these in mind:

  • dryness or dehydration
  • congestion, breakouts or uneven texture
  • dullness and lack of glow
  • puffiness, particularly along the jaw and under the eyes
  • facial sculpting and definition
  • early fine lines and loss of firmness
  • sensitivity or reactive skin
  • an upcoming event
  • simply an hour of rest

Tell us the goal and the treatment follows. You can also browse the full treatment menu first if you'd rather have a starting point.

How much do facials at RRYL Skin Spa cost?

Pricing varies by treatment, since a 30-minute add-on and a 90-minute sculpting session are very different appointments. Current rates for every service are listed on the treatment menu, and the booking page shows the price for each option as you select it.

If you're weighing two treatments and want to know which is the better use of your budget, ask before you book — the honest answer is sometimes the shorter one.

How long are RRYL facial treatments?

Treatment times vary by service. The menu includes shorter appointments and add-ons of around 30 minutes, standard treatments of roughly 60 minutes, and longer sessions of approximately 75 to 90 minutes for more involved work such as combined sculpting or multi-step protocols.

The exact length of each treatment is listed on its service page and at the booking stage, so you can plan around it. First appointments include consultation time, so allow a few extra minutes. Focused services such as Lymphatic Drainage can also be added to another treatment rather than booked alone.

How do I book an appointment at RRYL Skin Spa?

Appointments are booked online. Choose your treatment, pick a time that works, and confirm — you'll receive a confirmation with the studio details and anything you need to know before arriving.

Because the studio is private and one-on-one, only one client is seen at a time, so availability is limited and popular times fill in advance. If you don't see a slot that works, or you'd like help choosing a treatment first, get in touch and we'll find something.

What products and ingredients do you use during facials?

Products are chosen per treatment and per client rather than applied from a single fixed lineup. What's used depends on your skin type, your sensitivity level, the concerns you've raised, any actives you're already using at home, and the goal of that particular session.

Skin that's reactive or barrier-compromised is treated with gentler formulations; congested or resilient skin can usually tolerate more active work. Some treatments, such as the Moroccan Atlas Detox, draw on Moroccan-inspired skincare traditions alongside modern professional products.

If you have a known allergy or ingredient sensitivity, tell us when you book and formulations will be adjusted.

What makes RRYL different from other facial spas in NYC?

RRYL is a private skincare studio designed around personalized, one-on-one care. Each client works directly with one esthetician rather than rotating between providers or receiving the same fixed facial protocol at every appointment.

Bouchra Sfakes is a New York State licensed esthetician with more than 25 years of hands-on experience. Her approach combines personalized skincare with facial sculpting, Buccal massage, Gua Sha, lymphatic techniques, advanced facial modalities and Moroccan-inspired skincare traditions. Each appointment is adapted to your skin, concerns and goals.

RRYL's private Fifth Avenue setting also provides a quieter, more focused experience than a traditional high-volume spa. You can read more about Bouchra's background and approach.

Where is RRYL Skin Spa located?

RRYL Skin Spa is located at 501 Fifth Avenue, Suite 707, New York, NY 10017, in Midtown Manhattan. The private skincare studio is on the 7th floor, near the corner of Fifth Avenue and East 42nd Street, across from the New York Public Library and just steps from Bryant Park and Grand Central Terminal.

How should I prepare for my facial appointment?

Very little preparation is needed, but a few things genuinely change what can be done safely:

  • Tell us about allergies, sensitivities and any medications, including prescription skincare
  • Mention retinoids, prescription actives or strong exfoliating acids — a short pause before treatment is often advised, so ask when you book
  • Let us know about any recent peel, laser, injectable or cosmetic procedure, and when it was
  • Avoid treating freshly sunburned or sun-exposed skin
  • Waxing, threading or dermaplaning is best scheduled with a gap before a facial

Makeup isn't a problem — skin is thoroughly cleansed on arrival. Come as you are, and share anything relevant before we begin rather than during.

Can I get a facial if I have sensitive or acne-prone skin?

Yes. Both are common, and both are reasons to be treated by someone who adjusts as they go rather than following a set routine.

For sensitive or reactive skin, the approach is deliberately conservative: gentler products, less mechanical stimulation, and a focus on supporting the skin barrier rather than pushing it. For congestion and breakouts, the Acne + LED Facial is often the appropriate starting point.

A facial isn't a treatment for medical acne and results vary by individual. Persistent or severe breakouts are best managed alongside a dermatologist. Please disclose any medications, prescription actives and past reactions before your appointment.

How soon will I see results, and how long will they last?

Some effects are visible the same day. Skin generally looks hydrated, calmer and brighter immediately after treatment, and sculpting or lymphatic work can visibly reduce the appearance of puffiness and give the face more definition. These immediate effects typically last from a few days to about a week, depending on your skin, sleep, hydration and stress.

Longer-term goals — texture, congestion, firmness, tone — respond to consistency rather than a single appointment, and results vary. Treatments such as the Microcurrent Facial are typically most effective in a series with maintenance. No facial produces permanent change.

How often should I get a professional facial?

For general maintenance, roughly every four to six weeks suits most people, which loosely tracks the skin's renewal cycle. That's a starting point, not a rule.

The right interval depends on your skin type, what you're working on, which treatment you're having, how consistent your home routine is, and how your skin responds. Active congestion may call for a closer schedule at first, then spacing out. Sculpting and microcurrent work are usually built as a series before moving to maintenance. Peels require longer gaps.

Bouchra will suggest a realistic interval after seeing your skin.

What should I do after my facial?

You'll receive aftercare specific to the treatment you had, and that guidance takes priority over anything general.

As a rule: keep the routine simple for a day or two, use gentle cleansing and plenty of moisture, drink water, and apply sunscreen daily. Hold off on strong actives — retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs — until advised, and avoid anything that unnecessarily irritates the skin.

Stronger treatments have stricter aftercare. Peels in particular come with specific instructions on sun exposure, product use and timing, and following them closely affects both comfort and outcome.

Can I get a facial before a wedding, photoshoot or special event?

Yes, and it's one of the most common reasons clients book. Timing matters more than the treatment itself.

Schedule your appointment a few days to a week before the event rather than the day before, and avoid trying a strong or unfamiliar treatment for the first time close to the date. Skin needs a little time to settle.

For hydration and glow, the Hydra Oxygen Facial is a popular choice. For definition and a reduced appearance of puffiness, Sculpt Buccal & Lift or the Sculpt Buccal + Gua Sha Lift work well. Mention the event when booking so timing can be planned around it. Results vary.

What is your cancellation, rescheduling and late-arrival policy?

Because appointments are one-on-one and time is reserved specifically for you, we ask for advance notice of any change.

If you're running late, let us know as soon as you can and we'll do what's possible within the remaining time.

Not Sure Which Facial Is Right for You?

You don't need to arrive with a treatment already chosen. Most clients don't.

Tell Bouchra about your skin concerns, what you'd like to improve, any sensitivities or products you're using, anything you're preparing for, and the kind of experience you're after — the treatment is selected from there.
